The flange of stainless steel flange nuts serves in distributing the pressure of the nut over the part being secured, thus reducing the possibility of damage to the part. Metric flange nuts are less likely to loosen as a result of an uneven fastening surface. These nuts are mostly hexagonal in structure and are made up of hardened steel and usually coated with zinc.
